My SNMP-FSH2602G is not working well after some time of operation  (return to top)

  • First of all, please check the serial number on your machine.  If it is 2602GS402021 ~ 2602GS402100.  Please return the unit back for repair.  Or mail to tech@ovislink.com.tw for instruction on how to repair it yourself

  • Please check the MAC address of the switch on the Web UI to see if it matches the MAC address on the machine's label.  If it doesn't, please email tech@ovislink.com.tw for instruction.

Why is the SNMP-FSH2602G respond so slowly when I tries to configure the web management?  (return to top)

Please turn off the "Personal Firewall" feature of your WinXP network connection.  This will speed up the access.

<SNMP-FSH2602G> How can I make the Ingress Rate control to work with NIC cards?  (return to top)

The Ingress bandwidth control works by using the flow control mechanism.  Almost all the switches and Ethernet device have flow control enabled.  However, for direct connection to the PC, the PC's LAN card must enable the flow control.  To force the LAN card's flow control on, please set the SNMP switch's port to "10Mbps, Half Duplex" mode.  Then the Ingress control will work even if the NIC doesn't turn on the flow control.  Please remember the SNMP switch's rate is in 100K increment.  If you input 1 in the field, it means 100Kbps.

How can I turn off the SNMP-FSH2602G's port mirror function once it is activated.  (return to top)

Please do a "Configuration Backup" first.  Then do a "System Reset".  Afterward, please restore your configuration.

Why can't I find the Ether-FSH2400R, Ether-FSH2400RS, or Ether-FSH2402GT using the management utility?(return to top)

The Win-Smart management switches undergone extensive management testing for every unit before shipping.  The switch and network should be connected and power on before installing the utility software.  If you have installed the software first or have trouble finding the switch using the management utility.  Please follow the simple step below.

  • Ether-FSH2400R:  Please close and run the utility again.  You should be able to find the switch this way.

  • Ether-FSH2400RS:  Please press the reset button on the right hand side of the front panel while the utility program is on.

  • Ether-FSH2402GT:  Please press the reset button on the back panel while the utility program is on.

Also, please make sure the WinPCAP is installed (included on the product CD).

What is the difference between 2400R and 2400RS? (return to top)

The Ether-FSH2400R loses the user's setting when power off, it must be restored from your PC's configuration file. If you need the user's setting to stay inside the switch after power off, please choose the Ether-FSH2400RS model.

When I am using Ether-FSH16D+, Live-FSH16T+, or Ether-FSH2500F; why can't the computers see each other?(return to top)

Ether-FSH16D+, Live-FSH16T+, and Ether-FSH2500F are equipped with VLAN mode function for special applications.  When the VLAN switches are turned on, each port is in each own VLAN group having 1 or 2 sharing ports.  Therefore, the computers can't see each other.  Hence, for normal operation, please make sure the switch's VLAN switch/button is turned off.  The Ether-FSH16D+ and Live-FSH16T+'s VLAN switch are in the back panel.  The Ether-FSH2500F's VLAN button is on the right front panel.  Please see your CD-ROM user's guide for more detail.

When I connect the Ether-FSH2500F with Ether-FSH2400, sometimes the network shows loss packet? (return to top)

When connecting the Ether-FSH2500F and Ether-FSH2400 together, please make sure to turn off the flow control on the uplink port of the Ether-FSH2400.  For example, if you use port 24 on the Ether-FSH2400 to connect with the Ether-FSH2500F.  Please use the Ether-FSH2400's Windows configuration program to disable the flow control on port 24.

Ether-FSH2400's utility will not work with Win2000 Service Pack 3 (return to top)

The new utility program is now available to solve the problem.  Please click here to download.

When I connect the Ether-FSH2500F to another switch or hub.  Why is the Diag LED keep on flashing and there is no connection? (return to top)

Ether-FSH2500F has auto-MDI/MDI-X function except Port 25Furthermore, Port 25 is a normal station port(MDI), not an Uplink Port(MDI-X).  Therefore, if you use the Port 25 as an uplink port, it will create a problem.  We have a few suggestions when connecting the Ether-FSH2500F to another switch/hub/print_server/router.

  1. Use Port 1 to Port 24 for uplinking.  Those ports have Auto-MDI/MDI-X function.  You don't need to worry which type of cable to use.

  2. When using Port 25 for uplinking, please connect the cable to the uplink port of another switch/hub.  Or use a crossover cable to connect to another switch's normal ports.

It is normal for the Diag LED to blink when there is a broadcast traffic or disconnection.  It should go away after a few seconds.

Why is several ports not working in Ether-FSH16D+ or Live-FSH16T+. (return to top)

The Ether-FSH16D+ and Live-FSH16T+ has a VLAN mode selector switch in the back panel.  The default is in "off" position.  If user accidentally move the selector switch, it can cause the switch to operate in VLAN mode.  Therefore, please check to make sure the VLAN mode selector is in "OFF" position.

Why is the VLAN mode switch not working in Ether-FSH16D+. (return to top)

The VLAN switch configuration has been changed in the latest version of the switch.  It is now as followed:

  • VLAN1:  15 VLAN Mode- Each port is in its own VLAN group sharing Port 8

  • VLAN2:  14 VLAN Mode- Each port is in its own VLAN group sharing Port 8 and Port 16

Why is the VLAN mode switch not working in Live-FSH16T+. (return to top)

The VLAN switch configuration has been changed in the latest version of the switch.  It is now as followed:

  • VLAN1:  15 VLAN Mode- Each port is in its own VLAN group sharing Port 2

  • VLAN2:  14 VLAN Mode- Each port is in its own VLAN group sharing Port 1 and Port 2

Why doesn't the Shift-Num key combinations work when configure the Ether-FSH802G console port using HyperTerminal?. (return to top)

The console port program is set to recognize standard English keyboard layout.  Please select the language entry to "English", configured to use U.S. keyboard layout.

I have installed the switch and network cards correctly.  Each computer can see itself in Network Neighborhood, but cannot see the other computer.  What's the problem? (return to top)

First, please check the "Link" light on your switch to make sure the connection are made correctly.  If LED is not on, please double check the connection and cables.  Crossover cable might be needed when connecting device of the same class (Switch-to-Switch or Card-to-Card).

Next, you need to set the workgroup name of both computers to be the same.

If you are still unable to see the other computers.  This is a problem caused by Windows not by the switch and cards.  Please install the NETBUEI protocol on all computers.  Then right click on "Network Neighborhood" or "My Network Place" and Select "Search for computers".  Enter the name of the computer you wish to find and it should find it on the right hand side.

Power indicator does not light up (green) after power on. (return to top)

The likely cause is that there is a defective power outlet, power cord, or internal power supply.  Try a different outlet or have your unit's power supply or Power LED replaced.

My switch powers off after running for a while. (return to top)

Check for loose power connections, power losses or surges at the power outlet, and verify the fan on back of the unit is unobstructed and running prior to shutdown.  If you still cannot isolate the problem, then the internal power supply may be defective.

Link indicator does not light up (green) after making a connection. (return to top)

Network interface (e.g., a network adapter card on the attached device), network cable, or switch port may be defective.

  • Verify that the switch and attached device are powered on.  Be sure cable is plugged into both the hub and corresponding device.

  • Verify that the proper cable type is used (See the installation guide), and that its length does not exceed 100 meters.

  • Check the adapter on the attached device and cable connections for possible defects.  Replace the defective adapter or cable if necessary.

The partition indicator lights up on my hub. (return to top)

The hub automatically partitions a port that is due to a faulty cable or connector or when there are excessive collisions on the segment it is connected to.  When the faulty condition disappears, the hub will automatically enable the partitioned port.

Link/Traffic indicator remains unlit after making a connection. (return to top)

What is the difference between Class I and Class II repeater? (return to top)

Both Class I and Class II are standards for Fast Ethernet hubs, the following list highlights the main differences between them:

Class I

Class II

Number of cascaded hubs

1

2

Maximum distance between two end nodes

200 meters

205 meters

Normally be implemented as:

Stackable hubs

Standalone hubs

OvisLink products

OvisLink Fast Ethernet hubs comply to both Class I and Class II standards. Our Dual speed hub product series follows Class II standard.

My hub is 15 feet away from my server and I have no problems accessing it.  However, when I move the hub 50 feet away, I lose my connection.  I have already checked the cables and connectors to ensure they are good.

Using the same cable in a 10Mbps environment, there is no any problem.  We have discovered that this problem only occur in a 100Mbps environment.  In a 10Base-T LAN, the frequency of the signal is 20MHz, but the 100Base-TX transmits at 41.6MHz signal.  In such a condition, cross-talk occurs.

Cross-talk occurs because the cable has incorrect wired pairs.  The correct cable wiring should have two wired pairs: Pin 1/Pin 2 must be twisted and Pin 3/Pin 6 must be twisted.

My switch was working well for a long time, but now Link/ACT LED starts to blink fast and no connection available/or no more than two ports can be used.

Please first check to make sure the problem is not caused by defective cables.  If all cables are functioning, then the problem might be caused by the power adapter.  Live-serie power adapters can be replaced with an adapter of the same voltage and similar amptitude( i.e. for Live-FSH8R with 5V adapters, any +5V DC adapter can be used, but greater than 1A is prefered).

Working with Ether-FSH24RS in Trunking mode.

Trunking provides an effective way to increase the bandwidth between switches by aggregating several ports together.  The Ether-FSH24RS is an unique product in that it doesn't require the other switch to have Trunking capability.  Thus, it provides the mean to increase the bandwidth without replacing your old switches.  However, some rules need to be followed when using Trunking on the switch:
1. When connecting multiple 24RS together, only one switch should have the Trunking turn on.
2. When connecting to two other switches using Trunking, in some cases, it might be necessary to cascade the second and third switch together.

As the general rule for Trunking, all cables on the trunk must be cross-over type.  Trunking will not work if just one cable in the Trunk is defective.  Thus, please check to make sure the cables are of the correct type and functioning.

As soon as I enable the full duplex for my Ovislink Ethernet card, my workstation loses connection with the network that is connected to the hubs.  Why? (return to top)

Make sure the hub ports in the network support full-duplex.  Normally, Ovislink switches support full-duplex.  With Ovislink dual speed hubs, the 100BaseTX fast ethernet hubs and the 10 BaseT Ethernet hubs support only half-duplex.  Therefore, do not enable full-duplex.
