<WL1100CAM> How can view the video from Internet? (return to top) Please open the following virtual server ports on your router
Please make sure your Camera's IP address is in the same subnet (the same first 3 digits in the IP address) as your router. Please enter the router's IP address as the WL-1100CAM's gateway, this is very important so the IP camera knows where to send the data to Internet. If you have more than one camera. You can change the web interface and image control port for each camera from System->Open Second port.
When I surf the Internet, I can ping but I can't surf some websites. Why? (return to top) There seems to be some virus or browser bug recently that is causing this issue. It happens to non-OvisLink products also. You can test this syndrome by pressing "Control-F5" to let the webpage reload when you can access the website. If pressing Control-F5 works, then it is very likely to be the case. In this case, please reboot your machine in safe mode and runs a virus scan (make sure you have the latest virus definition). Or reinstall your browser program. Another possibility is the MTU and MRU value are set incorrectly with your ISP. In this case, please lower the MTU and MRU value to lower values (such as 1463, 1432, or 1400).
Why does my AP or Wireless Router doesn't work with Centrino? (return to top) Please download the latest Centrino driver from Intel's website.
<WL5420AP> Why do my AP keep on losing configurations? (return to top) The WL-5420AP use 5 volt adapter, it is different from WL-1120AP(use 9V). Please do not use other power adapters. When using the WL-5420AP's reset utility, please connect the AP directly with the PC. Otherwise, the reset utility will reset all APs in the network. Finally, the new firmware P5.3 is more stable. Please download it from the "Download" page. Please read the powerpoint guide very carefully before upgrade. Why doesn't my PCMCIA card works when installing in the notebook? (return to top) Please remove all previously installed wireless driver. Wireless card drivers can conflict with each other. If you do not know how to uninstall old drivers. An easier way will be looking at the drivers files of the old card. Then do a search on your PC for same file name, then you can remove the driver safely (but please keep backup before removal).
Can I extend the distance of a wireless router using a AP with WDS repeater function? (return to top) The WDS repeater function require both side to have WDS function. If your router does not have WDS function, you can't extend the distance by using a AP with WDS function. The recommendation is to use 2 AP. One AP work in client mode to connect with the wireless router, the other AP work in AP mode. Then connect the 2 APs together using an Ethernet cable.
Why can't I receive the signal with my WL-1120PCI or WL-5400PCI? (return to top) The PCI card's wireless signal might be blocked by the computer itself. Please adjust the antenna or rotate the angle of the PC to get better reception.
Why can't I configure the WL-1134ARM or ARM-104 when my computer's IP address is set manually. (return to top) The ADSL router's CD program need the router's IP address to be set as the gateway. If your computer's IP address is configure automatically, the router will automatically assign itself as the gateway so it is no problem. But if you assign your PC's IP manually, please enter the router's IP address as the gateway in the TCP/IP setup.
Where is the setting for Bridge/Client mode on WL-5420AP? (return to top) The WL-5420AP require a different firmware between AP and Bridge/Client mode. Under the product CD's "Utility" directory, there are 2 different firmware:
Please use the web browser to upgrade the firmware. After upgrade, the AP's IP address is now changed to 192.168.1.241. We recommend doing a factory reset from the web's configuration after the firmware upgrade.
I have followed the instruction on Client mode for WL-5420AP, but it still doesn't work? (return to top) Please reset to factory's default using the web browser. See diagram above: For Client mode: Please set the Client(device A) to "Bridge" firmware and Wireless Mode to "Infrastructure". See diagram below:
Why can't I receive any signal from the GP antenna in close distance? (return to top) The WAE-085GP is an outdoor antenna that has omni-directional characteristic horizontally (when the antenna is standing upright). However, its vertical coverage is only about 10 to 15 degree from the metal tip of the antenna. Therefore, when you install the antenna, make sure it is installed at a similar height as the antenna itself. If you require greater vertical coverage, please use the patch antenna. However, the patch antenna's horizontal coverage is between 65 to 180 degree (please see the spec of individual antennas for details). If you need greater angle coverage, you can
Why is the WL-5400AP WLAN light always show it is in 802.11b mode? (return to top) The new multi-function AP/Bridge firmware has disabled the WLAN LED indicator's function to tell which mode the AP is operating. The WLAN LED will always stay in orange color in 11g mode. This is because the 11g mode has auto-fall back capability and the indicator might mislead users about the connection speed. In general, you can tell the connection speed by looking at the speed indicated by wireless LAN card's utility.
How to extend distance using extra AP or How to create wireless repeater(WDS)? (return to top) If your AP is equipped with WDS (Repeater) function, you can extend the distance by changing the software settings on the AP to WDS(Repeater) mode. WDS allows an AP to connect with another WDS enabled AP wirelessly, and still able to communicate with WLAN cards at the same time. However, both AP must support WDS(Repeater) function. Currently, the following model support WDS(Repeater) mode: WL-1120AP, WL-5400AP, WL-5420P. Please follow the quick installation guide on the AP for instruction on WDS mode. If your AP does not support WDS function or you are trying to extend the distance of a wireless router. Please follow the instruction below to extend.
In the diagram above, Computer B's distance is too far away from "AP1" to make a wireless connection. We can extend the wireless coverage by using 2 more APs to create a wireless repeater:
My wireless transfer is not stable and stopped sometimes. (return to top) Please change the wireless channel on your AP or Wireless Router. Most of the wireless problem are caused by channel interference.
How to setup authorized MAC address on WL-1100AP (return to top)
How many users can we link to the Access Point? (return to top) Theoretically, the AP can support the entire subnet of stations(253 users for class C). However, it is recommended to keep within 23 users for bandwidth purpose. The 802.11b Wireless specification use a sharing environment (CSMA/CA) for network traffic. Therefore, if there are too many stations in one wireless network, the bandwidth can be influenced greatly.
Why can't we get 300 meters of distance? (return to top) The 802.11b uses the same frequency band as 2.4Ghz cordless phone, therefore its characteristic is similar to the cordless phone. This is to say, the distance depends greatly on the obstacles that is between AP and Card. Also whether there is a source of interference nearby. In the open area, it can go 300 meters. But if there is a solid metal wall in between, it can't even go 1 meter. The WLAN is easily interfered by cordless phone and bluetooth device. If you have trouble getting a reasonable distance, please try the followings:
Why my card can't connect to AP? (return to top) The card's configuration utility will tend to remember the last AP that was connected to. Therefore, it require you to do a rescan or in the WinXP, reorganize the the wireless connection for the card to link with a new ESSID device.
What is AdHoc and Infrasture? (return to top) AdHOC and Infrastructure are 2 ways to form the wireless network. ADHOC
(Peer To Peer): Infrastructure
(Access Point):
What is WEP encryptions? (return to top) Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) is the method for secure wireless data transmission. WEP adds data encryption to every single packet transmitted in the wireless network. The 40bit and 64bit encryption are the same because of out 64 bits, 40 bits are private. Conversely, 104 and 128 bit are the same. WEP uses a common KEY to encode the data. Therefore, all devices on a wireless network must use the same key and same type of encryption. There are 2 methods for entering the KEY, one is to enter a 16-bit HEX digit. Using this method, users must enter a 10-digit number( for 64-bit) or 26-digit number( for 128-bit) in the KEY field. Users must select the same key number for all devices. The other method is to enter a text and let the computer generate the WEP key for you. However, since each product use different method for key generation. It might not work for different products. Therefore, it is NOT recommend to use. When enable the WEP key, please remember to enable the AP's WEP function before enabling the card's.
I plug my computer into the Port 1 of the WL-1104AR, but it is not responding (return to top) The Port 1 of the WL-1104AR is the Uplink Port. It can't connect to a computer directly using a straight-thru cable. If you want to use Port 1 to connect with a computer, please use a cross-over cable instead.
How can I change to a different wireless network under WinXP (return to top) By default, WinXP will automatically connect you to an Access Point that has the strongest signal. However, if there are more than one wireless network in your area or you want to change to AdHoc mode. Under Control Panel-> Network Connection, please right click on the wireless connection and choose "view available wireless network". Choose the network you want to connect and click on the "connect" box.
I am using the AIrlive PCMCIA card with my notebook, why does the connection drop and reconnect sometimes (return to top) The PCMCIA card's antenna is on the black plastic plate of the card. If you cover the plate, the card's signal can be blocked. Make sure there is no object that will cover the antenna of the card.
In some wireless device, the ESSID (SSID) is case sensitive (return to top) Please be aware that the ESSID(SSID) might be case sensitive for some devices. So if you ESSID is "Wireless" in your AP or router, please make sure that you have entered the exact word with the 'W' in capital letter.
I have trouble installing the Wireless PCMCIA card to my Windows, the Windows doesn't show any wireless card to choose from during the driver installation. (return to top) This usually happen if you do not install the software before plug-in the card or if there is previous installation of wireless LAN adapters. In any case, please let the window go through the installation process (do not cancel installation). Afterward, please install the driver manually. This time, it will show the selection of the card during installation.
